Continuous pagination across documents

I have several chapters of a book in separate Word documents. I want to
print it with continuous page numbers without having to go in and change the
starting page number in each document whenever I make changes. Is there a
way to do this? Or does Word have a Master document, subdocument feature? I
haven't been able to find one.

It does have a Master Document feature, but it works so poorly that
most of the books on Word barely mention it.

There's almost no reason not to simply combine all your chapters into
one big document, probably with Section Breaks in between. Word can
handle documents with tens of megabytes of text (_plus_ graphics and
such).
