Convert to PDF

I want to convert several hundred of my Word Docs to PDF for distribution to
individuals who may not have Office. Some of the docs have background colour
and this is not retained after the conversion. I am using Office Mac 2008 and
the docs have been saved as Word 97-2004 docs.

Can anyone suggest how I could do this short of purchasing the Adobe product?

Hi Michael:

You will always get better results from using the .docx format. Downgrading
to .doc format removes things that don't work in older versions of Word,
including some formatting.

"Saving" to PDF is actually a "Printing" process. So go to
Word>Preferences>Print and ensure that "Print background colours and images"
is checked.

However, I seem to remember that background colour is one of the things that
does not survive the printing process in the older versions of Word, so you
may have to up-convert those files to .docx to get it to work.

Cheers
