As long as you are talking about Publisher 2002, you don't need to do
anything except open it.

How can I open a Publisher 2000 version 6.0 document in XP?
Hi JoAnn,

Unfortunately, if that was the case it would have just opened the file
(because I do have XP 2000). But the error comes up that is cannot open
Pulisher files from another version. ?? :-( What do you think the problem is?

I'm a bit confused when you say you have "XP 2000". That makes no sense.

Other than that, lets assume you mean you have Publisher 2002 and you get that message. Do you have Norton Antivirus running? If so, Disable "script blocking" and in Norton options, misc., disable "Office Plug-ins."

Ummmmmmmmmm

XP 2000?

This could describe four or more different things

Publisher 2002 (from Office XP, also known as Publisher XP)
Publisher 2000 (from Office 2000)

Windows XP
Windows 2000

XP and 2000 are both version identifiers, from different. Neither is a
product name, so we cannot tell what product you are using, and as they are
different versions, we cannot tell what version you are using.

In your version of Publisher, go to Help > About Microsoft Publisher and
tell us exactly what the first line of the dialog (underneath About
Microsoft Publisher) says.

JoAnn,

I'm sorry, you're right, of course I have XP 2002. I am not so smart
considering I have no anti-virus software. I am on a wireless connection
(which has a high security firewall). But, I wouldn't think that had to do
with being able to open a Publisher 200 Version 6.0 file...

Thanks for helping!

Ed,

Thanks for the clarification. I realized that when JoAnn said she was
confused. Now, I understand too.

I have Publisher 2000 and the file I need to open is in Publisher 2002.

So I guess that means I need to go backwards from 2002 to 2000... Can that
be done?

Thanks

No, you cannot open 2002 or 03 with Publisher 2000. Have your sender save as a 2000
file or a PDF. If that isn't possible, you can send the file to me and I will convert
it for you.

Thank you so much for the offer, but, as it turns out it was quicker to
re-do the 2 hours worth of work i put into the file yesterday.

At least I know for further reference! :)

have a great day!

I have gotten exactly the same report.
"Publisher cannot open files from a different version"
I have "Microsoft Pulisher 2000 SP-3 ".

I'm trying to open a file from a CD that in properties says "Microsoft
Publisher 2000 Version 6.0".
Is this in fact Publisher 2002?
Is that why it will not open?
Is this what the confusion was in this discussion before?

a) Any Publisher file you check the properties of will say that, as Windows
is just telling you the program that it has allocated to open the file. You
could take a plain text file or any other kind of file, rename it to .pub,
and Windows will tell you that it is a Publisher 2000 file. The file could
have been created with any version of Publisher (or even Corel Ventura)

b) Have you tried copying the file to your local hard drive and removing the
read-only attribute? Publisher does not like opening files from removable
media or read-only files.

Thanks
It's definately a Publisher file
Note with CD had written
"Please find a copy of our pricelist enclosed on CD as requested.

Hope you have no problem opening the file which is in Microsoft Publisher."
I think he scudded me with that note!
Tried saving to "My Documents"
It saved with the "Read only" not ticked.
It was originally ticked on the CD.
I felt confident with fingers crossed.
Opened it and got the message
"Publisher cannot open files from a different version."

Thanks anyhow, any more ideas?

Send the file to me, I will convert it to whatever version Publisher you have. Be
sure to note your version.
