Copying FP Web from server???

R

Rick

Greetings! I made a mistake and deleted some files and
navigation in my FP02 web. The web is in perfect form
residing on a web server at bCentral hosting. I
can "Publish the Web" and see all the files and attempt
to drag and drop them back to the local FP web but it
doesn't seem to make a difference at least I can see it.
Is there a way to transfer my FP web that resides on the
web server back to FrontPage02 on my computer??? Thanks!

Publish it.

Kevin, thanks for the quick reply! However, apparently I
didn't make my problem clear (or I don't understand your
verbose response). The web that I have stored in
FrontPage02 on my computer is corrupt, ie I have deleted
files and corrupted the navigation etc. The web that I
did publish previously to the web server is fine. I want
to know how to retrieve the entire web from the server,
ie put the good web back into FrontPage02 on my computer.
As when one publishes a web to a server, is there a
reverse procedure or any way to do same??? Hopefully, the
problem is clear and I would appreciate any help!! Thanks!

Open your live web in FrontPage. File > Open web..
enter http://yourdomain.com enter the user name and password
and then select File > Publish web.... and Publish the server version to
your machine.

It would be a good idea in the future to quote the message you're replying
to. I answer quite a few issues during the day, and it's hard to keep track
of which one you're referring to (my newsreader hides read messages). I did
find my reply, though, and it may have been a bit short. What I meant was
"Open the hosted web site in FrontPage and publish it to your local
machine." FrontPage doesn't discriminate between locations when publishing.
You can publish from any loaction to any other location. In this case,
you're doing the reverse.

GREAT NEWS! Got my web back! Whew...Thanks, Steve and
Kevin! Wondering now how to Save this version (from the
webserver) as my local FP web, so I can use it??? When I
clicked on File, the Save and Save As options were grayed
out...Also,is it possible to Rename this version? Thanks,
guys, I really appreciate the quick responses! God Bless!

To expand on the above Reply: as I said I was above to
publish the web on the server to my local computer in
FrontPage; however, it has the same name in FrontPage as
my web on the server, hence it won't let me publish it
because the name of the web is the same as the name of
the destination!! What's the solution to either saving
this corrected version of my web or re-naming it???
Thanks! God bless!

Point it to the folder that contains your web, not just to it but inside it.

If you are publishing from your live site to your local machine, the
locations of the 2 webs can not be the same. I don't know what you mean by
the "name of the web" but the location is the important thing.

:) That big smile is cuz I figured out how to solve my
problem...well, kinda sorta...I think it's called a work-
around, as I still don't know what caused the problem I
described nor how to solve it specifically. But that's to
lots of prayer and guidance from the Lord, I found that
if I open my website OuterLimitzShop.com in Internet
Explorer, then while it's open click on the tool in the
IE toolbar, Edit in Microsoft FrontPage, then the type in
my userID and password, I can edit my web just like it
was stored locally on my computer!!! PTL! Actually, this
is better than working locally and having to publish the
web because I am working live on the web and the changes
are instanteous! I would like to thank everybody for all
their help and input, even those that didn't respond!

God Bless!
