Corrupt Data!!

Recently, we have published a project file. Then we compared the published
results with the source file. The published file contains erroneous data.
Primarily, Tasks had been re-assigned to different resources. How does this
happen?

Hi Dave,

Since you are using terms like "file" and "publish", I will assume you took
a project .MPP file and converted it to MS Project Server. When you do
this, there are some rules that come into play. For example, your server
may not allow a local resource to publish to a server, so you ned to
'convert' any locals to global before saving.

Also, there are different ways of re-assigning resources. Did you use the
Import to Enterprise feature or open/save the project? If you use the
Import feature, you will more than likely have associated local resources
with global ones. In this case, MS Project will sometimes do this for you
if there is an exact match, but someone else could have made adjustments.
Do you think the latter is posssible?

Hi William

Thanks for the reply. Your points are well taken. The published file has
tasks with enterprise resources assigned from the server. So I think the
local resource senario isn't part of the problem. The file was published
using the Import function without any messages or alerts.
You've mentioned that the server will sometimes reassign a task to alike
resource. Is it possible to check flags or settings somewhere?
