Corrupt Outlook??

J

J.S.

I'm having a major problem with my Outlook 2002 and can't
find any reference to a similar problem.

I normally have 5 different folders listed in the Folder
List, each referencing a seperate pst file. Currently,
there are 2 "extra" folders showing up that I did not
add, nor are they listed in the Data File Management
screen. One has the duplicate name of one of my existing
folders (Projects), so two are now listed, and the other
only has a folder icon, no name, just blank.

With the duplicated Projects folder I get the following
errors:
- Left click: "Unable to display the folder. Microsoft
Outlook could not access the specified folder location."
- Right click: "The set of folders could not be opened".

With the blank folder I get:
- Left click: "Unable to display the folder. Microsoft
Outlook could not access the specified folder location.
The requested information store could not be found in the
active profile."
- Right click: "The set of folders could not be opened.
The requested information store could not be found in the
active profile."

The only references I can find to these errors have to do
with exchange which I am not using. I am on an WinXP
machine. I've checked for viruses (NAV 2004). All clear.
And keep updated with Microsoft.

The only thing that I can see might have anything to do
with the issues: Last night I left Outlook open, auto
downloading emails every 20 mins. This morning all I had
on the screen was a window stating that Outlook had
crashed and was forced to close. So I rebooted and
restarted Outlook. Everything looked fine. This afternoon
when I started up Outlook, I noticed the extra folders,
upon which I then tried to access my real Projects folder
and discovered parts were corrupt. I removed that file
from the Folder list but no change. I've tried restarting
Outlook and rebooting.

Could my folder list file be corrupt? Is there a file I
can restore or should I reinstall Outlook completely
(which I'd rather not do). These errors are just so odd I
want to make sure there isn't a larger problem.

Thanks for any help you could give!!!

Sounds like your mail profile is corrupted. Create a new one.

Thanks guys. That was it. Turned on mail profiles.
Created a new one and the problem has yet to reoccur.
