corruption

I am having serious problems with corruption in any word
document I use or try and create (Word 2000 9.0.6926 SP-
3). It began in documents containing tables, but now
seems to occur in any document. In addition to portions
of text turning into nonsense symbols, many of the font
titles on the pull down menu appear as bar code-like
symbols or empty boxes. I also periodically receive the
message that "changes have been made that affect the
global template...". I have: reinstalled word, used the
latest updates, renamed & recreated my normal.dot file,
run the latest virus scans -all to no avail. I would
appreciate any advice.

Hi, Lisa. You have taken the proper steps to try to solve the problem, and I'm not sure what else to suggest except that when you reinstalled Word/Office 2000, you also should have reinstalled Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a and Office 2000 Service Pack 3.

Dear Lisa

I am no MVP or guru but recently went through a real bad
thing with a re-installation etc. I called the Microsoft
technical help desk and they led me through a complete
removal of all references to Office from the Registry and
then a re-install. This seemed to do away with some
dud 'hangovers' from the previous installation that had
not been solved by a simple reinstall or repair.

Hope that is of use. I certainly didn't do it without
having a Microsoft person on the other end of the phone.

Regards

Philip
