Hi

Questions regarding workspaces. My Platform is Project server 2007, Project
Pro 2007 with SP1 and latest Infrastructure updates.

I wanted to create Project workspaces without creating a Project file or
publishing a file. Is this possible? Reason project is being worked on and
creating documents around it that requires collaboration. Other then
proposals is there another option.

Thanks

Even though I am uncertain that creating a Project Workspace is the best
solution for what you desire... The PWA Administrator can create a project
workspace for you by following these steps:

1 - On the PWA homepage (http://yoursite/PWA) go to Site Actions -> Site
Settings.
2 - Click on Sites and Workspaces.
3 - Click Create to create a new workspace.
4 - On the "New Sharepoint Site" screen, enter an appropriate Title,
Descriptions, and URL name. Select "Microsoft Office Project Workspace" as
the template. Define your Quick Launch and top link preferences. Click
"Create" to create your new Project Workspace.

The new workspace has been created and is not associated with any Project at
this point. If you need to link this workspace to a published project at a
later point, that can be done via other steps.

If all you need is a workspace for document collaboration, you may want to
use the "Document Workspace" template instead of the "Microsoft Office
Project Workspace" template.

Keep in mind that with either solution, your PWA Administrator may have to
manually configure the permissions for the newly created workspace to get
things setup correctly.

If this suggestion does not provide what you need, please submit more
information so a better suggested can be made.

Thank you, I will try this. You answered my next question also about linking
this with a project Plan later on.

Thanks

One thing I saw was missing is Issues and Risks in the workspace created. It
only has Shared Documents, Calender, Task and Team Discussion links. It
would be helpful if we could have both Issues and Risks as well.

Any ideas if this can be added.

Thanks

If the Issues and Risks lists are included in your default Project workspace
template, then they _should_ be present for the Project Workspace you
manually created.

It is possible to add the Issues list manually using a list template:

1 - Open the manually created workspace (http://yoursite/PWA/ManualWorkspace).
2 - Click "Site Actions" -> "Create".
3 - Click "Issue Tracking" under the Tracking category.
4 - Enter an appropriate Name and Description and define your Quick Launch
and e-mail notification settings.
5 - Click "Create" to create the Issues list manually.

I have previously encountered issues when two lists were created using the
Issues Tracking list template within one project workspace. So, make certain
the Issues list does not exist before manually creating a new one.

You can also add the Risks list manually, but I believe you have to create
it as a new "Custom List" and then customize the columns appropriately.
Since my default template creates them both for me I have not had to manually
create my Risks list before.

I hope this info helps a bit.

An easier process might be create a placeholder plan, with which you
could associate team member (who may need access to wss site). Publish
plan and create site. You can then delete the published plan without
losing the site.

I understand how to create a project workspace without first publishing a project plan, but how do I link a project plan at a later date?

Thanks.
