Critical path does not trace to beginning of project

My project's Gantt Chart is formatted to show critical path. What I'm
finding is that only the last few tasks are colored red to indicate the
critical path. Why wouldn't it show the critical path all the way back to
the first task in the critical path?

Its been a while since I worked with critical path but as I recall, once
a task is complete it will no longer show on the critical path. Stands
to reason, if a task is complete it isn't critical anymore, right?
