Customize cross reference defaults

Matt

I find it very irritating that every time I insert a cross reference I have
to select the "Reference Type" (e.g. Table, Figure, Numbered Item etc.) and
the "Insert Reference to" (e.g. only label and number, page number etc.).

Is there a way of setting defaults for each Reference Type? I.e. If I select
figure as the reference type then "only label and number" is selected
automatically as my default.
Even better would be if I could have a separate button on the quick access
toolbar that for each of my most commonly used cross reference types. E.g. A
button for inserting a figure cross references, which opens the cross
reference dialog with figure and "only label and number selected".
Thanks
Matt

Interesting question. In my Word 2003, I don't think it's possibl
without VBA but to ease your irritation Word remembers the last settin
used within a session.
You can create your own menu buttons, so also one for creating an xref
This merely solves the mouse clicks for opening the xref dialog window
but you cannot set the starter you want. If that's of interest and yo
need instructions on how to do that, I can send a screen movie where th
process of making a Paste Special button is illustrated.
