customizing Finder

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel When opening a document, one can set Finder to highlight only Excel files by choosing "All Excel files" in the "Enable" box at the bottom. How can I choose this option in preferences so that Finder opens this way, instead of having to change it manually each time?

Further to Michel's reply, the Open dialog should only default to "All
Readable Documents" the first time you access it after launching the
program. AFAIK there is no way to alter that other than, perhaps, by way of
Apple Script. However, once the 'Enable:' is set to one of the other options
it should remain that way for the remainder of that session unless you
change it again. In my experiments here it only reverts to "All Readable
Documents" if you Quit then launch again.
