Default ActiveX Controlers for MS Office

WebDev

Hi,
I am wondering if it possible to determine whether MS Office is installed on
a computer based off ActiveX controls that are only installed if the user has
MS Office installed. If so, is there a (unique) way to determine what
version of MS Office is installed? Is there documentation on default ActiveX
controls for MS Office?

Thanks.

Hi WebDev,

Newer versions of Office use fewer ActiveX controls.

It probably wouldn't be a reliable method to determine the Office version installed and since a lot of computers ship with trial
versions of Office it could end up only indicating that at some point some form of Office or viewer was at one time there, although
you may be able to use the MS Info controls for Office 2000 through Office 2007 if it's available in
\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo

Office 2000: MSIOff9.ocx
Office XP: MSIOff10.ocx
Office 2003: OInfo11.ocx
Office 2007: OInfo12.ocx
