Default Assignment Owner for Generic Resources

Gary Zag

We upgradeed from 2003 to 2007. The Default Assignment Owner field for
Generic Resources are blank, grayed out and readonly. When a Generic
Resource is assigned a task the Assignment Owner is set to the Project
Manager. We would like to have it always set to someone else. Is this
possible? Anyother way to do this?

Although this is not technically a bug in Project Server 2007 and is
probably a design oversight, it is certainly a problem for users. Here's
how to resolve this:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions.
2. Navigate to the Resource Center page.
3. Select each Generic resource and then click the Edit Details button.
4. For the first Generic resource, deselect the Generic option, select a
Default Assignment Owner for the resource, and then re-select the Generic
option again.
5. Click the Save and Continue button.

Repeat this process for every Generic resource you selected. Hope this
helps.

Isn't that cheating?

When an upgrade is finally released just think of all the useless
knowledge we have acquired.

Unless I'm totally blind, I see nothing in the Hotfix description that
references this problem. What am I missing? Could you quote the text that
says the Hotfix fixes this problem?

Dale,

This does not work for me. When I save it the default assignment owner is
still blank.

Gary

PS: Your project server books are great! Everyone should have them for
reference!.

Did anybody ever figure this out? I have the same issue but trying to
check/uncheck generic and adding the information doesn't "take" and I end up
without an assignment owner.

I never did. I changed all my generic resources to be non-generic to get
around the issue. SP1 is now out but have not yet upgraded and don't know if
it addresses the issue.
