default path

I would like to know how I can open a new document in an
office program and have it go to a default directory
instead of me having to select from "my documents". I
would like it to go to my U drive and then a specific
user. I tried going to "open...then tools...then map a
directory" but that isn't working.

Thanks!

Hi, Lesia,

You don't mention what operating system you have, or what version of Office.

Here's how you can do it in Word 2000 directly:

212386 - WD2000: How to Change the Default File Name and Directory:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;212386&Product=ofw

You can change the default location of "My Documents" folder, and the steps
are somewhat different depending on your operating system.

Also, you can modify the drives that show up in the "Places" bar in the Open
and Save dialog boxes in Office; here's how:

205041 - OFF2000: How to Customize the Places Bar:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;205041&Product=ofw
