delay in opening

If I double-click on any Office 2003 file, the associated program launches
very (3-54min) slowly. If I open the application, and then open the desired
file, the process takes seconds. This only occurred after my upgrade to
Office 2003. Is there some way around this issue? Using XP.

Check your virus scanner options; in particular, the Office plug-in.
