Someone please help me. I deleted a clients microsoft exchange account after
setting up a new emai account for his new employer. I backed up the microsoft
exchange account first but when I go to that account backup it only shows the
sent emails and not his inbox emails. I desperately need to find those
emails. All of his clients are there. I have tried to find it but can't. The
microsoft exchange account no longer exists so I don't think I can recreate
and retrieve the email off the old server either. Is his old email stored on
the hard drive? I never saw any option to save email when I deleted the
account either. He is using outlook 2003 on an older windows 2000 machine.

Look for an OST file, that would basically be a copy the contents of the
Exchange mailbox that Outlook keeps. You can get a third party app to covert
it to a PST.

By default in most cases the email would not be on the client's computer;
they'd be on the Exchange server.

When you say you deleted his Exhange account, do you mean you deleted it out
of Outlook? Or you deleted it from an Exchange server (I'm assuming the
former).

If his Outlook was configured with default settings (mail is delivered to
the Exchange mailbox) then the only way to get this data is from his former
employer, as that's where the data always was. The way you would have had
to get the email in the first place would have been to copy the mail to a
personal/offline storage folder on his local machine.

If however his Outlook was configured to deliver new mail to a personal
folder file on his machine, then you'd need only find that .PST file.

Thank you sooo much for your responses! I only deleted the account on the
outlook program. It never asked me to save anything but he was able to view
the email even after he was removed from the server. The company went out f
business so I don't think he can download any email now. The only thing is
that he had a list of clients to follow up on and I told him I would try to
find them tomorrow.
Do you know what third party software I would use to convert to pst?
Thanks again Joe an K.

Thank you K for getting back to me. I will try to look for that file tomorrow
when I am scheduled to go there in the afternoon. Can you tell me the name of
the third party software to convert the files to pst?

I did try to open the pst file but maybe I'm doing it wrong. Should I use
import export or just use the "open" under the file menu?

was it a pst or an ost? if it’s a pst, just use file, open, outlook data
file - export is not necessary. if its an ost, use system restore to go
back to before you deleted the profile then export the contents to a pst.
