Discrepancy in font size resulting in uneven ledding in MSPublish

Is there a way of evening out the ledding when I use an 18 point font to
begin a sentence and am using 12 point fonts throughout the rest of the text?
I am using Publisher 2003.

If you've not already typed your document, you could try using double
spaces and then doing a Find/Replace for double space and replacing with
En or Em space.

Otherwise, try finding and replacing ". " with a period and an En or Em
space.

I am able to highlight text but don't have a clue about highlighting space.
Can you explain?

I am assuming when you type an eighteen point font, you type a space at the end
of the word, this is the space you highlight. Or don't type the space and change
to 12 points then type the space.
