One of two machines freezes when I send or receive emails. That machine has
W98, Outlook 2k and Outlook Express 6. The problem occurs with both
softwares.
My other computer has XP and the same email softwares. Both softwares seem
to work fine there. The two computers are connected through a gateway.
When I click on send/receive the problem computer searches for the server,
finds it, and has a status of "downloading 1 of 10 emails". It stalls there
until it times out. If I stop the email download the software freezes and I
have to ctl-alt-del to get rid of it. Sometimes I get an error message
something like "server is too busy, try again in a few minutes."
Basically the same thing happens when I write a message and click on send.
It must be connecting to the server since it knows there are 10 emails
there. I can see my email by a web connection and there are 10 emails there.
Here's what I've done to try to correct it:
Rebooted
Verified that all account info (server, account name, password) are the same
on both machines
Deleted all emails in outbox and on server (via web email connection)
Did a "detect and repair" process
Told my email synchronization software (OsaSync) to stop synching emails
between the two machines.
Called my ISP for help (no help there).
any help would be appreciated
