drawn lines glued to where they are drawn.

Let's say I have 10 tasks starting at a 10 day rate, and then I have 10 more
tasks at a 5 day rate. The boss has asked me to "draw" a trend line through
the start dates to visually show the increasing rate. Unfortunately when you
draw something in project, it has a habit of printing wherever it feels like.
Is there a way to print what is on the screen without project moving things?

Not sure I understand entirely, but you could try the following:

1) Use Progress Lines: right-click on the Gantt Chart, select Progress
Lines. Choose the Display selected progress lines options, then manually set
the date for a progress line in the chart underneath that option.

2) After inserting a drawing element on the Gantt Chart, right click on the
element, and select Properties. Go to the Size and Position tab, and
configure the element to attach to the timescale or to the task.

That's all I can think of....hope it helps....

#1 works ok. It is tricking project into drawing a line but had to use a
status date in 2010 or further. #2 did not do what i needed it to, project
still wants to scale or move or just plain screw with me.

While #1 works, there seems to be no way beyond color and style to change
the thickness of the line so that it shows up better.

At any rate, we are getting closer.

Hi,

First I don't understand what you mpean here by "Rate" but that is
secundary.
Double-click on the line, and in "Size and position" link it to either a
date or a task.

draw a line at a 45 degree angle. attach it to a date. only the start stays
put, the end goes where it wants to.

Hi,

Sorry but Project does all I ask for drawings: thickness, Position...
exactly where I want them to be.
If you fix the line to a dat, it does stay on that date doesn't it.
Ans if you link it to a task number, it stays with that task?
Or what exactly is happening?

Hi,

First of all, sorry, I assumed it was a vertical line.
I checked the behaviour of a 45 degrees line (never used it
before).Curiously enough (not what I expected) it doesn't n move at all
(meaning graphically)
This indeed means on the view the end is not related to a task or a date
Then when printing it sticks to the date..
So it doesn't move erratically, there is some logic behind.

And BTW, the thickness sticks.
