The total duration time in the summary task does not equal the duration times
of all the subtasks

Yes, that is quite often the case. The Summary line duration starts at
the earliest early start date of any of it's subtasks, and ends on the
latest early finish date of any of it's subtasks. Unless the tasks are
linked directly in sequence, this will not be the sum of the durations.
It might be longer or shorter, or, occasionally, equal.

Hope this helps in your world.

hi,

Summary task information for duration summarizes the period between the
earliest start and latest finish date of all the included subtasks. It does
not show the sum of all the subtask durations.

Hi Kirsty,

A couple of things to check:
Is your calculcation set to Automatic? See Tools> Options, calculation
tab and check automatic.

What serivce pack of MS Project do you have installed? Check Help >
About Microsoft Project Office. Project 2003 should be at service pack
2.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
