email notifications from Outlook on user accounts

I just updated to Outlook 2003 on my xp media edition and now the user
accounts no longer show the right number of un-read emails. I have searched
and cannot find how to correct this. I have tried deleting the email
accounts and re-creating to no avail. suggestions?
