Entourage 2008 -- hotmail password no longer sticks

I turned on the application Firewall in OS Leopard 10.5.2 (intel) and
then several applications asked first to be allowed incoming connection
and then apparently all keychain passwords reset.

I entered in my hotmail account password in Entourage 2008 and now it
will not stick. It continually asks for one even though I said to put
it on the Keychain. I get a message that says the password has to be
6-12 characters long but it is already.

This same account works fine with Entourage 2004 on Leopard 10.5.2 on
my other PPC computer, after doing exactly the same thing.

What can I do?

I have not yet subscribed to the pay service but that account seems to
have been grandfathered in or something before. Another hotmail
account never worked (with 2004 and PPC and Tiger) after the forced
upgrade.

I would not be unwilling to pay for the service -- but I want to at
least make sure that automatic checks actually work because before I
always had to check manually and running on a schedule never worked.

What prompted you to add this option?

Keychain First Aid:

Run Keychain Access found in /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access.

Go to the Keychain Access Menu and drag down to Keychain First Aid.
Enter your login password, click 'Verify' and 'Start'.

You will probably get some items colored red. Click 'Repair' and 'Start'. If
some items are still red, 'Repair' again.

Test to see if the problem is fixed. If not...

1. Go to the system keychain and delete the entry for that account.

2. Go to Entourage, select 'accounts' from the Tools menu, choose the
account that was giving you trouble and click on Edit. Select the 'account
settings' tab.

3. Delete the password from the password box in the POP settings (leaving
the box empty).

4. Close the account window.

5. Re-open the account window and enter your proper password, check the
'save in keychain' check box and close the window again.
