Entourage address book and Apple address book issues - HELP!!!

Okay...I'm not sure what I've done but it's causing big problems! Please excuse my computer illiteracy! I'll try to explain what has happened!

I use entourage as my email programme and have sorted all my contacts into categories...and it has always worked wonderfully, until I wanted to sync this information with my iphone.

I realise that not all information syncs from entourage to address book, so I'm not expecting that...but what has happened now is that my entourage address book has become very unstable.

Contact information keeps changing and I'm losing information in my custom fields (though not all contacts are losing information). It seems that address book has become the 'manager' of all my information and as it doesn't accept the custom field information of entourage, is now removing that information from entourage as well...does that make sense?

Also...I deleted some contacts from my address book and it deleted them in entourage.

I thought that I had made entourage the 'boss' when I went to preferences and selected "replace sync items with entourage items"...but it seems that address book is in charge!

Also, since I've used the script to get address book to place my imported entourage contacts into the same categories, it took all my contacts out of their categories in entourage.

Please help!

Would I be better just to leave entourage and only use address book? I prefer the 'look and feel' of entourage...but it's doing my head in!

I'm not absolutely certain, but I believe that the choice "replace sync
items with entourage items" applies only to the FIRST sync after setting up
sync services. After that, a change in any of the sync'ed applications
should be reflected in all the others.

That's how sync is intended to work. The idea is that you can make the
change in which ever app is most handy at the moment, and all the others
will see the changes.
