Entourage Auto-Deleting on Closing???

P

Entourage frequently automatically shows a window indicating a
countdown deleting unknown stuff when closing??? I manually stop it in
process. Whazzup?

Thanks!

You have a schedule set to empty the deleted items folder on quit. Check the
Schedules under the Tools menu.

There is nothing set in schedules. I have no schedules set for
anything other than send/receive????

Thanks for following - however, there is nothing set in schedules. I

There is an option in the Junk Mail Protection dialog (under the Tools menu)
to automatically delete junk mail older than x days (which, I think, is set
to 30 days by default)

P

pc.neal

Wow Barry,
Thought you had it there... however that function doesn't appear to
act on this. The Junk folder is cleared at least daily and items are
either deleted or changed to "Not Junk". In the delete folder, things
are permanently cleared (manually) about every 2-3 weeks. I could find
no setting that automatically deletes anything from any folder other
than the junk one you mention and it isn't the problem???
In discussions with others, I've noted this problem frequently over the
past 1-2 months. I've been using Entourage for about a year and half
now. We questioned whether it was the server clearing, but my account
instructions are to not hold any messages in the server...
This problem is new - intermittent - and the window with the counts
flashes very quickly and has no info on what is happening.

Thanks!

Barry Wainwright [MVP]

OK, one more place to check - if this is an IMAP account, there is an option
(under the 'Advanced' tab of the account settings, to 'empty deleted items
on quit' IF your delete model is set to 'move deleted items to deleted items
folder.

Is that it?

Sorry... nope. Don't know what an IMAP account is, but in the advanced
settings on the account, there is no option for any kind of deleting???

Guess I'm going to have to end up blaming this on the Gates Team

Account? I don't know... I have broadband cable connection through
COX. Does a "POP" account mean anything? The Entourage is 2004 for
Mac Version 11.2.5 (060620) Purchased 4/05. Everything worked fine
til 1-2 months ago when this problem started...?

Again - THX

Barry Wainwright [MVP]

OK, if it's a POP account (you can tell in the 'accounts' window - the
account name should have '(POP)", '(IMAP)' etc after it), AND you have mail
set to stay on the server, there is a setting in the 'Options' pane of the
account settings to 'delete Messages from server after xx days'. Another
setting will delete the email from the server when it is deleted in
Entourage. Either of these could be causing the deletion dialog you see on
quit.

Hi again Barry,

Yup, it says it's a POP server in accounts.

In accounts, under "server options", there are three primary
options:
1) Partially receive messages over 20 KB [ this is not enabled ]
2) Leave a copy of each message on the server [ this is not enabled ]
Three subcategories under this section 2) are:
a) Delete messages from the server after 60 days [ Note; this is not
enabled, but it is checked even though this entire section is shaded
- because the primary section itself is not enabled ? ] ,
b) Delete messages from the server after they are deleted from this
computer [ this is not enabled ], and
c) a long icon that says; Get all messages left on the server ... [
this is not enabled ], and lastly
3) Allow online access (shows account in folder list) [ this is not
enabled ]

Whadyuthink... should I uncheck the shaded sub-option in 2a and see
what happens...? I am under the assumption that everything downloads
to my hard drive whenever I get mail (every two minutes) and therefore
nothing should be left on the server ....? Also, the number of deletes
that seem to be running through my little window (the problem) sometime
number in the hundreds....?

Thanks!

It's worth unchecking that box and see what happens - it _shouldn't_ be
operating, but you never know....
