Error in PDF from Publisher

S

~shelly~

Is anyone else having problems with PDFs that are made from Publisher? I sent a PDF to our off site printer last week, and the job came back with mysterious black lines in the background. I literally tore the file apart trying to determine the cause, and concluded that the lines appeared during the PDF conversion. There was nothing in the Publisher file that looked awry, and the location of the lines didn't correspond with any of the graphics in the document. They appeared to be completely random. Also, the lines were not visible in the PDF when viewed on screen. When they re-ran the job and printed directly from the Publisher file, everything was fine.

Now I'm having the same problem with another file, only worse. My PDF looks so bad that it looks like I have an empty table with black borders sitting on top of my background images. The only common thing between these 2 files is the fact that I'm using the Master Page feature in Publisher.

Is this happening to anyone else? Do you know what's causing this problem? There's no way I can work like this. We make PDFs all day long...

NOTE: I am using Adobe Acrobat 5.0, on WinXP with Publisher 2003.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

There are so many settings with Acrobat who would know where to start
looking. My first suggestion (easiest) would be to uninstall
acrobat...reboot...and reinstall it.

Does the problem only occur when making .pdf's from publisher?...or does it
happen with other applications as well?

Hi ~shelly~ ([email protected]),
in the newsgroups
you posted:

|| This only happens with PDFs created from Publisher.
||
|| When I create my PDFs, I always print through the acrobat distiller.
|| The only settings I adjust during the process are output resolution,
|| page dimensions/orientation and color settings (to avoid color
|| conversions).
||
||
|| I forgot to mention that one of my co-workers is having the same
|| problem, except she's using Acrobat 6.0!!!! So I don't think
|| reinstalling Acrobat will help. It sounds like there's some sort of
|| bug... Do you know if any patches have come out for Pub 2003? We
|| just began using it...

What happens if you change your font embedding options in distiller before
sending?

Shelly how are you making the PDF file?

Are you using a Postscript printer driver and then using Adobe Distiller to
make the PDF?
