Errors detected and now I can't open my personal folders

Karen

I am running office 2000. I can't open my personal folders. When I try, it says "unable to display the folder" errors have been detected in the file....outlook.pst. Then tells me to use the inbox repair tool, which i did. It says it fixed it successfully and still when I click on the personal folders, I get this same message. All my contacts are gone and all my saved emails. Please can anyone help??
Thank you to anyone that can...

Hi Karen,

How large is your PST file? There is a 2 GB file size limit on every
version of Outlook except the latest (Outlook 2003). Errors like this
commonly crop up when you reach 95% of this file size limit. The PST is not
necessarily corrupt, but the file architecture of a pst is such that it
tries to compress the data in the file to be able to continue to function.

Even if the size is not an issue, I'd try to create a new Outlook
profile (which you need to be in Corporate or Workgroup mode to do. If
you're not, no worries I'll include an article on how to switch. You can
tell by going to help and about Microsoft Outlook. It'll say in the first
or second line which mode you're in.) Make a new profile and a new PST
(again I will include articles on how) and then go to File > Open > Personal
Folder file (.pst). Point it to your old PST file and open it. Then drag
and drop what you want from it. You likely don't want to import it for two
reasons:
a) if you are at your file size limit, you'll just recreate the problem
b) if it's corrupted, you'll just recreate the problem.

Back up everything before doing this so you don't loose data. If this does
not work I'm sure someone else will have a better idea. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE
YOUR CD's ;) first rule of tech support.

Thank you for all your help Eri
I did all you said to do and I now have 2 pst files. One is called "outlook.pst" (which as you said is way up around the 2GB range) and the new one is called "personal folders (1).pst" when i try to open the first one (by double clicking) it says"properties for this information service must be defined prior to use"...So then I try to right click and go to properties..it says open with and then I'm lost, one would assume it wants you to open with Outlook, only that isn't an option. What program can I open it with?
