excel document will not open from desktop?

I have several excel documents for office 2007 as shortcuts on the desktop;
However, when I try to open the desktop shortcut it only opens the excel
program itself. Any clue why this would have all of a sudden changed within
the past month?

I suspect "Ignore other applications" has been set accidentally. Check Excel
options, advanced section I think.

I had the same problem and using Jan's suggestion I know have no problem. I
don't know how this box got checked as I didn't change anything prior to the
problem; it just happened. Here are the steps to change the setting:

1. Go "Excel Options"
2. Select the "Advanced" tab
3. Uncheck "Ignore other apps that use DDE"
