Expected vs. Actual Start and Finish Dates

Hi there,
Is there a way to track Actual Dates independent of the planned/expected
Dates? The dates of the tasks on our project changes all the time, so what we
did was to add columns to track the (planned/expected) Start and Finish dates
versus the Actual Start and Finish dates. What we found is that whenever we
change the Actual date, the planned/expected date changes as well i.e. the
planned/expected date copies the date indicated as the actual date.
What we want MS Project to show are different dates for expected and
actuals.
Is there a way of doing this?

We are using MS Project 2003 standard (Win XP).

Thanks for your help.

Go to tools menu / tracking / save baseline.
The baseline then is your planned start and finish.
In Project 2003 you can save 11 different baselines so you can have one for
the initial plan and use some of the others to make week to week
comparisons.

marie,

Try looking into Baseline. The original plan dates, once baselined
become the expected dates and can be compared to the actual dates as
the project progresses.

I hope this helps.
