Export<>Import .pst doesn't bring over all accounts

Herbo

Hello - I have a question about exporting and importing .pst files.
Old computer - has Outlook 2002 with three accounts - 1 main one and 2
secondary ones (little used but still relevant). New computer - has
Outlook 2010. I wanted to export the old computer's .pst file,
transfer it then import it into the new one. Sounded simple enough.

On the export, I selected all mail files, subfolders, settings and ran
the export to a "migrate.pst". Brought "midgrate.pst" over to the new
computer. Upon import however, only the main email account showed up
perfectly intact. Then the thought occured to me - perhaps the other
two secondary mail accounts/folders/emails/settings are stored somehow
in their own individual .pst(s) on the old computer and should be done
seperately. I did not see any evidence of them on the disk. Or could
it be that the other two accounts are indeed sitting in that
"migrate.pst" and I simply can't find them?

What would be your next step?

Thank you all!

You just found out that why you DO NOT import pst files because you most likely will
have corruption. What you need to do is to put the old pst files manually into
their new and proper hierarchy where they belong and in their default location.
Remove the files and re-do as per above and hopefully (maybe you will get lucky) the
pst file are not going to be corrupted after what you did

Peter -

Hmm - sad isn't it? Let me ask this - for the benefit of all -
shouldn't this method have worked? I mean, in a perfect world, we
wouldn't have "corruption" but just so I'm careful next time, is the
Microsoft published method supposed to work in the manner I
attempted? (i.e. export to one .pst, import to one .pst and call it
quits)???

Now, because I did not see a seperate .pst for each of the two minor
accounts, is my assumption that all accounts should be able to travel
across in one conglomerate .pst?

Thanks for your answers.

H
Herbo,
Have you tried the Windows Easy Transfer tool under Accessories-->
System tools?

Jim -

"Old computer" is Windows 2000 (REALLY old...).
Unfortunately, upon a reboot, the W2K system crashed with an 027
BSOD.
I tried and can't ressurect it (like I perhaps could with XP etc.).
Can still access the hard drive with a live-CD if I need to.

Good suggestion but not for W2K.

Would still like to know if I was on track and if the other two
accounts might (emphasize m-i-g-h-t) be inside either the large
exported .pst file that resulted -or- the .pst file sitting on the
crashed system.

H
Herbo,
I used it on a Windows 98 PC to get to XP. But the system needs to be
bootable with the original running OS and not from a LiveCD.

Why can't you do a repair install of 2000?

No recovery set was made when this thing was started - 9 years ago.

Also, I'd still like to know:

==Was I on the right track at the start?
==Is there a chance that the other two accounts are still
"extractable" from either the export or the orig?
