exporting dates from project to excel

When I export start and end dates from microsoft project to excel it changes
the dates.
This does not occur when I copy & paste to excel, so I don't think there is
a problem with my excel document.

How can I stop this from happening?

What do you mean by changes the dates? What were they in project? What are
they in excel?
If you can post more details it might be possible to figure out what is
occuring.
