file attachment in readonly view - files can't be viewed

The readonly view feature in Infopath 2007 is great, but the files attached
using the file attachment control can't be viewed when that option is set.

I have users who need to view all parts of the form (including attached
documents). I could go back to setting the hundreds of individual controls
in my view to read-only, but then I run into the problem of checkboxes, etc.

Any ideas? Any raitonalization for why this doesn't work?
Thanks.

Hi,

I verified adding file attachments to file attachment control in editable
view then verified in read only view.
File attachments are seen in read only view.

I have one question for you, did you bind the file attachment controls in
editbale and read only view to different fields in data Source or same filed?

Hi,

Can you delete that control from your form(read only view) and add it again
that control to the place. Check the attachment properties once, ‘Allow the
user to browse, delete and replace files’ check box value should be unchecked

Thanks for your reply. Yes, they are bound to the same field.
Can you confirm that you can open the file attachment and read it?
Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, Shiva.
I tried that with no luck.
I also created a test form doing the following:
- open a new form for design
- create a file attachment control
- create a new view
- drag the field created on the first view to the new view
- set the new view to readonly
- set properties for the fileattachment to not allow add/edit as you
suggested.

I can now use that form to attach a file while in the first view.
I switch to the second view, and cannot open the attached file.
Are you getting different results? Or did you do this differently?
Thank you.

Hi,

I tried for your repro I am also getting same. But we can do one thing for
this if we are not used ‘ReadOnly’ option in view properties. For attachment
control we need to uncheck the ‘Allow the user to browse, delete and replace
files’ checkbox in attachment control properties. By this way we can open the
attachment control and we are not able to delete or replace it.

Thanks, Shiva. Unfortunately, that's not an option for me as I have hundreds
of controls on the view.

Hello jprn,

did you found a Solution for this Problem? i'am stucked at the exact same Situation.

Btw. there is a reason to using the Read Only view. If you dont and a User open the Form which has only Read Only permissions on the file - and he is be able to enter even only ONE digit somewhere, which you dont considered to "protect", the user cant 'overwrite' the original Form, but will be asked (while closing) if he wants save the changes which result into a new submitted Form - which is also fatal.
