File Becomes Read Only

We are running 2 versions of MS Office on our network....Office 2000 and
2003. Anytime a file is modified using Word/Excel 2003, a computer running
Word/Excel 2000 can not modify the document because it becomes a "read only"
file. How can I prevent this from happening? Upgrading the software is not
an option at this time. We have other machines (with 2000) and can open
these documents with no problems.

Until such time as you can upgrade to 2003 across your whole network, best
advice is to SAVE your work on the 2003 machine as a word2000.doc or an
excel2000.xls - these should open on your 2000 machines as read/write files.
Obviously you will lose whatever incremental advantages 2003 has over 2000.
