file is changing to read-only

A client opens a Project file from his personal network drive. The file opens
fine. He can work with it and save it no problem. After the file is open
awhile and he tries to save it, then gets message that the file is read-only.
This has happened multiple times with this file and other files. He is
usually working on a wireless network. Could this problem be caused by a
break in the wireless connection while the file is open?

maryj,
I've never worked with wireless but it is possible that if there is some
type of glitch with the connection, Project may still think the file is
already open when it ties to re-establish the connection. Another
possibility is that the client is not the owner and therefore does not
have exclusive rights to read/write access. If someone else who does
have exclusive rights opens the file while your client is working on it,
your client's write access may get bumped. However, this is only an
assumption on my part based on some experiences we had years ago when
our files were on a central server. I can't give any more details
because I don't remember them, but it might give you another avenue to
search.
