"File Not Available"

B

Bruce

I ran a Symantic anti-virus scan that was uneventful --
nothing found. Done right after a live update. I've
used Word and Excell for weeks with not problems. After
this scan, now I can open Word but if I try to open any
of my saved documents, I get an error message that
says, "File Not Available." I get that even if I type a
new document and save it, close it and try to open it
again. I can open all these documents in WordPerfect,
however, so the data isn't lost. I've loaded all the
downloads from Microsoft (automatically selected). I'm
running Windows XP Home Edition and Microsoft Word 2003.
I can also not open any Excel database and get the
message that I cannot open the file because my virus
scanner has detected a problem with it. I have rescanned
everything, rebooted, etc., etc., etc. Of course, my
Excel files will open in Corel Quatro Pro. HELP!

There is a new virus around that affects Word and Excel - you must recheck
your virus protection. Try an on-line virus check in case your local virus
checker has been compromised.
