file NOT marked read only won't save to disk

a file I'm working on at desk top is NOT a read only and I continue to add
and change it; but when I go to save it to disk, I get message I can't
because it is READ only. Properties of the file show that it is archived
but NOT read only?????

Are you trying to save to your hard disk or to a CD?

Is the file also open in another application?

Have you tried rebooting your system and repeating the edit and save steps?
