File Sharing

Have a client asking about Office 2003 - "will the new version of office be
able to allow user's to share files so that more than one person can access
and work on a document at the same time?"

I remember a few years ago that to do this we would have to have Workgroup
software of some kind. Does office 2003 have this built in - if so how would
this be done, is there a link on the knowledge base that provides details
about file sharing at the same time.

Thanks

Perhaps I'm wrong but I would have thought it impossible with any app. to
have the same file/doc opened by multiple users and for all users to have
read / write access to that same file at the same time.

I'm thinking the same thing. Not "impossible", but pretty stupid!

Let's say User1 types

"This is a Cat"

Then User2 changes "Cat" to "Dog"

Does this instantly appear on User1's screen, or only if they refresh
the doc? If a 3rd user opens the doc, does it say "Cat" or "Dog"??

One thing that's possible would be to have a kind of multi-user "tracked
changes" document where each users edits are in a different color, but
it's bad enough with one person working on it at a time, let alone two.

There's certainly an option to integrate Office with Sharepoint for
so-called "collaboration" features.
