Following update I can't send messages or find old ones

I update Outlook today and now I cannot find some of my old messages. Also I
cannot send new messages. They are in the "Outbox"

What version of Outlook? When you say "update" do you mean you applied an
Office update, or you upgraded to a new version, or what?
