fonts

many of the fonts (all are true type or O type) that
appear on my font list don't work in publisher? i
highlight the text, change fonts...nothing. any clues?

This is caused by a video driver issue. Go to the website of your video
card manufacturer and download and install the latest version of the video
driver for your video card.

Pushing F9 twice will also cause a re-draw of the screen which should work.
