Footnote numbering suppression....

A

abc

In a multipage document, I have a footnote with text like "cont'd on page
xx" where "xx" is the page number of the following page. How do I suppress
this footer on the last page? A VB script would be fine if you tell me how
to install it!!!

TIA,

I can't seem to get your suggestion to work. No footer is printed on the
first page. I forgot to mention that I was using Word97 (Office97)
running on Win98SE. Does this make a difference?

Thanks for your help, I finally got it to work. It was a bit tedious
entering all those Ctrl + F9 's! By the way, why do I have to update the
field when I reopen the file? Shouldn't it remember the last saved value?

Well, you can get around some of the Ctrl+F9s if you use the "Insert Page
Number" and "Insert Number of Pages" buttons on the H&F toolbar. I shouldn't
think you'd have to update the field more than once, and in any case it will
update when you print or Print Preview because all fields in the
header/footer are updated at print time (regardless of the "Update fields"
setting on the Print tab of Tools | Options).
