Formatting cells as text

Does anyone know of a problem in Excel 2000 with
formatting cells as "text" and then they will not accept
formatting to "numbers" with decimal places? Also, do you
know of existing problems with copying data from SAS and
pasting it into Excel 2000 and it not accepting any
formatting? I am having to retype the data in the cell in
order to see the new formatting.

I have had problems with data not matching in a VLOOKUP
when it cells match. I have had some luck creating a
column and multiplying the number by 1, and then copying
and pasting over the data as a value.

I don't know about SAS, but I've had problems copying numbers from
Access to Excel 2002. To convert the text "numbers" to real numbers, you
can use one of the techniques shown here:
