Formatting the number of characters

I hope someone cna help with something that seems simple but I can not find.
I want to edit the number of characters that can be entered into the task
name field. I have looked in every place I can think of. I need to be able
to enter 300 plus charactes in the "TASK NAME " field. All help is
appreciated

Ken:

You're limited to 255 characters in the task name field. You can, however,
add more information in task notes.

Ken,
Sorry, all text fields, (of which the task name is one), are limited to
255 characters. The only exception is the Notes field. I suggest you
figure out a way to shorten the task name. Something tells me you are
trying to use it for more than just an action verb description of the
task.

Thanks for the information. I was just trying to settle an issue with a
company that I just started working for. They were trying to use this field
like a spreadsheet and I had tried to explain that project is designed around
short and to the point statements. Being the new guy it is hard to get
people to listen when you try to explain software they are not familiar with.
The reply did however open the eyes to the people who were questioning what
I had told them. I ahd told them 250 character max.
Thanks again for the information that helped me prove what I had tried to
explain.

You're welcome and good luck. Many people who are new to Project try to
make it work more like Excel. Project is NOT a spreadsheet. It is a
custom database application for planning and tracking schedules.
