FrontPage 2003 duplicate file names

Mark Stanczak

I have a large site (large as in # of files). The folder
list pane is showing duplicate file names for every .htm
file. Any clues?

Are the duplicates contained within
one folder, or are the "duplicate" copies
in different folders such as a _vti_cnf folder.
If the duplicates are in the _vti_cnf folders
leave them alone. They are part of the webs
navigation and "update" structure.
They keep track of hyperlink and file
associations, and last updated date and time
among other things.

I have the same or similar problem. Every folder and
page of the Web Site are duplicated in the "Folders List
Pane" that is two "image" folders, two "_private" folders
two "index.html" pages etc. I have removed and
reinstalled Frontpage 2003 and the duplication remains.
I have accessed my site from another computer and the
duplication does not show up. Any thoughts would be
appreciated.

Have you tried some "cleanup"
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
3) Reopen site and run Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

Well I'm glad I'm not alone on this one. Does the
FrontPage site have a large number of files or folders?
Mine does. But other sites that I use FrontPage 2003 on
are much smaller and I don't have see this problem. The
sites are all hosted by the same company on the same
server OS.

I didn't find any *.web files but how do I find "FP Temp
Files"?

The web cache files are hidden system files - usually in
C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
The FP temp files are in your windows default Temp folder

Thank you, that solved the problem. Can this issue be
added to the FP knowledge base?
