Getting OneNote to sync to my PDA

D

DiscipleTom

I'm using a AT&T 8525...loaded OneNote manually...it seemed to work OK,
except that when I tried to sync it with the new MS Mobile, OneNote shows up
on the list, but when I click "Sync settings" I get an error that says "there
are no settings for this type item"...I tried rebooting both PC and PDA...no
help. I am using Vista Home Premium, and Windows Mobile Denice Center 6.1.
6965. The PDA uses Windows 5.1.478.

I bought the PDA to use ONeNote...which by the way is the finest program MS
has brought to market...now I just have to make it work.

Thanks for your help. Tom

Not sure what you are looking for. As far as settings, no settings is not an
error, just a fact. Settings can be things like calendar settings that can
define how far in the future and past you want to sync. The small one-note
pieces that get synced from the PDA. just get synced into a mobile device
sync folder on the desktop. Unfortunately, IMHO, OneNote Mobile is very
Smartphone centric, in that it is designed to support audio recording and
camera pictures and videos, from a Smartphone, and not scrawlings on a PPC.
Not sure you are going to be terribly excited about OneNote use on a PPC if
you think you want to jot notes on the run and sync them. OneNote Mobile
doesn't even support stylus input.

I develop applications for Mobile devices. I have WinXP SP2, a 8525 Mobile
5, Blackjack and OneNote 2003. I agree with you re the high praise for
OneNote. We have just ported an application to Mogul Mobile 6; are
experiencing 'issues'.

As I'm about to address the issue of a more comfortable version of 'tasks'
to sync via OneNote and Mobile, what are your specific goals?

Thanks, Sven...I guess what I'm expecting is to be able4 to sync to files
from my PC based system and be able to bring them up. Are you telling me that
isn't possible with the Mobile version?? I was expecting that I could pull
one of those files up and make new entries and then sync it back to the PC
file. If it can't do that, I'll be very disappointed...and wonder why they
bothered to make it portable.

Sven: From what I've heard so far, it looks like ON Mobile can't access the
files of ON on my PC...is that right?

Well, you asked what I want to accomplish...'m the Director of Equipping
Ministry at my church...that means I am working on 6-10 projects at one
time...I keep my notes from research on each project in ON and am frequently
in meetings picking up new information about those projects. I don't like to
have to lug my laptop around...I want to be able to add to my background
information on the fly...the 8525 (and soon the 8925) is the perfect platform
for me...so I want to be able to dive into the appropriate section and add to
it.

I can see wanting to take a picture of a white board...probably not record
audio...but definitely type in information.

Since it is my main source of information, I'd also want to be able to look
things up. So I'd need access to the information off my laptop.

I don't think my use of ON is very different than most people...it is a
great way to catalog information that I normally spend too much time looking
for.

This is possible. But: To a certain extent only.

Could it be that you are just missing the main thing?
One can only sync *one* section in *one* notebook.
When installing ON Mobile on the PDA, automatically a new notebook,
called "OneNote Mobile", is created. It contains a section with the name
of your PDA.
Only things put in there are synched to and from the PDA.

P.S. There is a PowerToy which can be used for copying pages from any
section into the ON Mobile folder

I am a pastor with exactly the same problem. One time, without understanding
ow, I got t\wo sheets from the ON Mobile folder to sync, but it hasn't
happened since. Everything else syncs but this. If you figure it out...
please let me know!

Thanks for this post. I was having difficulty to sync with Windows mobile
device center. I added a notebook called "OneNote Mobile" manually and the
sync was successful. So indirectly, this post helped.

Thanks for the feedback!
Norrnally the needed notebook is created *automagically*. No idea ib
what might have happened in your side.
