Grammar Check incorrect - I vs. me

B

BCarlson

When working in Outlook using as the word processor the embedded Word 2003, I
was very surprised to find the grammar checker indicating incorrect grammar,
suggesting that I should use "me" instead of "I", in a sentence
containing..." Just confirming plans for Bill and I to participate in...".

Although many Americans are sloppy with the use of the English language,
this is a serious mistake and should not be encouraged through your grammar
checker. To quote from a literary guide website:

I vs. me.

Is it "Harry and I will go," or "Harry and me will go"? Should it be "Give
it to Sarah and me" or "Give it to Sarah and I"? Separate the sentence. In
the first instance, separate the sentence into "Harry will go" and into "I
will go." Both of these make sense, whereas "Harry will go" and then "me will
go" does not. Therefore, "Harry and I will go" is the correct form. Ditto on
example #2: "Give it to Sarah" and then "Give it to me"; "Give it to Sarah"
and "Give it to I." In this case, "Give it to Sarah and me" is correct.

Please correct your grammar checker as soon as possible to correct this error.

Please advise if you further questions.

Just confirming plans for I to participate, or
Just confirming plans for me to participate
Me thinks MS has it right this time.

Hi B.,

In both of your cited example sentences Word does not
try to correct the grammar when I used:

Harry and I will go

or

Give it to Sarah and me

You may want to post in the Word Spelling & Grammar group
for discussion on this topic including which language and
grammar tool you have set in Tools=>Language for the text
being checked.

I had grammer checker tell me to change a sentence from "...he will let John
and me know..." to "...he will let John and I know...". The latter is
incorrect and so was the suggestion. I was using Word embedded in Outlook.
