Someone with Answers Please!....
I've been surfing various tech sites trying to get a
definitive on graphics placed into word and how they
affect file size. There is much conflicting information
within the newsgroups and I cannot get direct answers to
the questions on the Microsoft site. The questions below
are regarding Word 2000 and XP (or 2003) which the company
will be migrating to this year.
Can anyone - definitively, answer the following for me.
1. Verify that when placing a graphic into a word
document, word stores 2 copies (1 native format, tif, jpg,
eps, wmf etc) (2 windows metafile). As referenced in
Q224663 it is by "intent". If so - why? For size sake,
can one of the files (which one) be deleted (and how) to
keep size down to a minimum.
2. Is a Word Picture a Metafile or Bitmap? and.. when
placing a graphic file with compression (like a jpg or
tiff with lzz)into a word doc, does using paste special or
any other way of placing the graphic strip the
compression? (Example: a 73kb jpg copied and pasted into a
blank doc saved at 94kb. Same file - jpg cut and pasted
special as picture and saved.... 344kb! What happened?
3. Does Insert Picture from File and Copy/Cut_Paste place
a graphic into the document in its native format without
any changes?
4. Of the various ways of placing a graphic into a word
document, is any one way preferable as far as reducing
file size. (i.e., Copy/Cut_Paste, Insert Picture from
File, Copy_Paste Special as....picture, bitmap, Insert
Object)
