Graphics will not display

T

tmoon

Since installing Publisher 2003, graphics that I have placed in documents do
not display on my screen, but do print. It does not matter if the file is an
old one or something that I have just created. For example, I can open up a
new document, place a piece of Publisher clipart on the page and I cannot see
it, but when I print the file it is there.
I do have pictures turned on to detailed display under view and the Graphics
Manager lists the clipart and will take me to the location in the document if
I click on it.
I do not have this problem with my files on another machine using the same
version of Publisher.

Have you tried updating your video drivers since installing Publisher?

I am having the exact same problem since I got a new Dell computer at work.
Graphics print, but do not display at all. This was not happening before.
I think we have version 2002 at work. If any one can figure out what the
problem is and post an answer, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Karen

Did you try following the instructions in the post to which you replied?

Updating video drivers is normally the solution to this problem.

At this point I don't know what they've tried. The video driver update is my
first choice because I had problems with that. I thought the "Hide Pictures"
settings was something you had to set yourself so if they did it, they'd
know to try that.

(Okay, I'm not as good as you and Mary at reading minds. I try but I keep
seeing brick walls.)

JoAnn,

Maybe a look in View, Picture display holds the secret?
(One choice is hide the pictures)

I will try updating the video drivers when I head back in to work this
morning. I have tried the view picture > details, etc... and that is not
the problem. Let's hope the video driver update works. It is a little
aggravating that a new computer and monitor would not already have the
latest drivers though, huh?

The computer is mass-produced on a production line. The hard drive is
filled with data from a master disk, and that master disk does not change
often. Every time it changes, they have to go through a long testing
procedure to make sure it works - which they don't like to do very often.

They cannot afford the time or money to change it every time a new driver
comes out (each piece of hardware in the system has a driver, and new ones
are being developed all the time).

Also, even if they did this, if a new driver were released after the machine
left the factory but before you bought it, you would not have the latest
drivers on your brand new machine.

I guess that does make sense. I guess every change is more involved than it
looks at first glance.
BTW - how DO I make sure I am upgraded to the correct/latest video drivers?

Check the driver version that appears in your Device Manager (Start >
Control Panel > Classic Mode > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Locate
your graphics card > Properties > Driver), and see if it's lower than or the
same as the one shown as the latest version on the website of your video
card manufacturer.

Thanks Ed - After upgrading the video drivers, I think that fixed my
problem. I have not checked every document I was having a problem with yet,
but the few I opened seemed to show the graphics ok. Thanks for the help!
