grouping resources

Is it possible to assign resources to a task in groups.
i.e.:
A construction project, I have 4 crews working different
areas. Most of the time they will stay in their groups.
Sometimes I need to move men and equipment around.
I want to group together backhoe #1, operator #1, laborer
#1 and 2, dump truck #1 and truck driver #1.
Then group together the number 2 crew and equipment, etc.
I have a big project with a lot of taks. I don't want to
have to enter each individual resource (especially since
they do not fall together in any of the sorts) seperately
for each appropriate task but I still need to be able to
break them up for specific tasks.

This probably asking alot.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated

i dont believe that Project has the Resource Groups as a container object
that holds other resource objects and can be assigned directly to a task!

what you can do is to setup grouping based on Resource Outline Codes and use
it to filter the build resource tool then assign all resource to the task.

or

if this team is a resource unit, maybe you can consider creating a
team-resource object! assigned to a special calendar that reflects the
cumulative team work bandwidth. but ofcourse it doesnot connect to
individual resource availability in this case.

hope this helps.

There is not an easy way to do this. If you did do
something along these lines, however, you lose the
ability to track your individual resources and to see
their availability and over allocation. You could use a
filter with like or contains to get the numbered
resources to show up together.
