Help needed setting 8 hour task over two week duration

T

Tobias

I have a task that I want to set two weeks to complete. The actual task only
takes 8 hours to complete. How do I set the duration to 8 hours and still
keep the start date and finish date set to reflect two weeks (Start Date =
12/21 and Finish Date = 1/3)? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi,
Duration is the differnce between start and finish in terms of working time
so what you want is not possible.
But isn't it WORK you want to be 8 hoursrather than duration? If duration is
only a day the task WILL be finished after one day, isn't it?

Hope this helps,

Tobias,
You are confusing duration with work. Duration is the time during which
a task will be worked. In your case that is 2 weeks. Work is the effort
of one or more resources to actually accomplish the task.

What you want is a fixed duration task (Project/Task
Information/Advanced tab). Then set the start date (or link it to its
predecessor task) and enter 10 days for the duration. Once that is set,
then you can assign a resource and set the Work field to 8 hours.
Project will calculate the resource assignment level and spread that 8
hours over the 2 week period.
