help using word 2007

I used to be able to open word and type on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. now i
open word 2007 and type but it only types in a straight line. i get a
horizontal scroll bar at the bottom and i have no idea how to make it work
like before. please help. also, the curser where i start typing is lower on
the page and really big.

Make sure that you are in Print Layout view by selection the left most icon
on the right hand end of the bottom status bar. Also, move the zoom slider
that appears to the right of those icons to the left.
