How can I create a table of figures for drawing canvases?

I have created several figures in various documents. For each figure, I
placed its caption below the figure in a text box. Box the figure and it's
caption are in a drawing canvas so they can easily be moved to various
locations in various documents. I now want to create a table of figures at
the beginning of the document, but none of the drawing canvases are
recognized. Is there a work around for this?

Hi

Word can only create a table of figures from text it finds in the text layer
of the document. Text boxes are in the drawing layer, so no text in a text
box can be included in a table of figures.

You'll have to put the captions into ordinary text, and then create the
table of figures.

If you want the main text to flow around the image and its caption put both
in a frame as described here:
